Description & Prequel Origins
Dead Space: Extraction acts as a gripping prequel to the original Dead Space, taking players back to the initial Necromorph outbreak on the Aegis VII colony and the USG Ishimura. Originally built as a guided "on-rails" experience, it masterfully maintains the series' signature atmosphere of dread and tension. You follow a group of survivors, including detective Nathan McNeill and Lexine Murdoch, as they fight to escape the spreading infection. The game features visceral combat where you must still use strategic dismemberment to survive, utilizing familiar engineering tools and weapons. Unlike the main entries, Extraction offers a unique cinematic perspective, intense first-person action, and cooperative play, allowing a second player to jump in at any time to help thin out the Necromorph hordes. It is an essential chapter for any fan looking to understand the full lore of the Marker and the tragedy that befell the Ishimura's crew.
This PlayStation 3 version features "Full High-Definition Graphics", upgrading the visuals significantly from its original release. It includes "PlayStation Move Support" for precise motion-controlled aiming, though it is also fully playable with a standard DualShock 3 controller. Unlock the "Dead Space Ignition Bonus" items and explore the "Unlockable Motion Comics" that further expand the dark narrative of the colony's fall. The game also includes "Local Co-op Mode" for the entire campaign, making it a perfect title for two players to share the horror. Discover the "Challenge Mode", where you can test your skills against endless waves of enemies to climb the leaderboards. Additionally, look out for the "Hidden Text Logs" that provide deep background information on the Unitology cult's involvement in the mission!
